The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged at a snowy Nampa intersection,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler….

It’s always wildly amazing to me how people that have lived in Idaho for any length of time, seem to forget how to drive in the snow every year. So.. There I was on a mission to get to work on time parked at a light waiting to get on the freeway. The light turned green and I began to turn right onto the freeway and I looked up, whereby I found cars enough to fill all of Kuna piled up in a straight line going nowhere, and much to my chagrin I found them all the way down the on-ramp about 2 car lengths up from me…. I turned around and drove to Franklin instead….

I went through various phases of dealing with this travesty of travesties during that turn:

At first I was all astonishment:
“No!!! This can not be”
Apoplectic:
“What the heck Guys???”
Reflective:
“You know Rich, It didn’t have to be some moron driving too fast”.
Grieved:
“I am so grieved for the loss of my freeway and subsequent loss of time”.
Accepting:
“Zounds Man! Snap out of it, You can still make it to work!”
(Begins to play Switchfoot’s “dare you to move” softly in the background, so that the full gravity of the situation can be realized”)

There were almost no cars on Franklin and at last I had peace, and because I was at peace, and not sitting on the freeway annoyed, I began to think.
I began to think of things at work like the mailserver, the BlueWeb project and then finally on Grassroots Marketing and BYOM of all things.
I wondered how successful grassroots marketing techniques worked in places that were a little more metropolitan than Boise, ID e.g. New York and LA.
I also wondered if it penetrated big business like the Ciscos and Oracles of the world. I was going to ask Tac what his thoughts on the subject were but he was at his MBA class today and I completely forgot about it.

Much later I got a WebSwarm that popped up with a link to an interesting blog.

The blog is basically about Cisco Systems embracing the all mighty blog as a medium for communication. Along with the spiffy new marketing / communication strategy they got a new logo.
(and its about time the old one was so drab)

Their is also another article on the same site that talks about how Cisco Systems used the power of the blog to defend their position on the now infamous: Cisco Systems vs. Apple Celebrity Death Match over the “iPhone” name.
Both articles are worth the time.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged at a snowy Nampa intersection, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
